On Saturday July 12, the Pomona Arts Colony will once again come alive with its electric Second Saturday Artwalk. Many of my favorite galleries in the colony will be featuring some amazing exhibitions as well as celebrating major milestones. Below is a TINY tidbit of the amazing happenings of the Artwalk.
Loft Beats Art Gallery will be celebrating its 5 year anniversary with a show entitled, ” How We Do”. This exhibition will showcase the work of 12 resident artists and several invited guest artists. Normally a collective gallery with wall space assigned to each artist, this month Loft Beats will do away with the borders and hang the artwork in a playful arrangement that will take the viewer on a visual journey in one door and out the other. The opening of “How We Do” will kick off with a reception at 6 p.m. on July, 12, 2014.
Loft Beats address: 62 W Second St-Ste 204, Pomona, CA 91766
A few doors down, SPACE Pomona will be unveiling the much anticipated installation, “SIGN GEEKS”. Sign Geeks is a group of photographers who share a passion for vintage neon signs. Their goal is to capture the beauty, history, humor and even grandeur of the signs so they can shine brightly once more as works of art. The always masterful curators of SPACE Pomona will feature photographers who have traveled around the country, separately and sometimes together, in search of the weathered and fading works of art. They find these signs adorning worn and tattered buildings and bowling alleys, or even in seedy bars and old motels. These photographers work to capture the handcrafted original pieces or former landmarks that once were icons of their neighborhoods. As quoted by the gallery, “Sign Geeks’ work is both an homage to this vanishing art form and a distinctive and compelling genre of its own. This show features the best work of 40 different Sign Geeks from around the world”. The opening reception will also take place Saturday, July 12th, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
SPACE Pomona address: 250 West Second St., Pomona, CA 91766
The always eclectic and elegant Latino Art Museum will be hosting an amazing reception for their installation “DON’T SLEEP”. Not only will the reception unveil the exhibition, but it will also be host to live art, music performances and a very special awards ceremony bestowing lifetime achievement awards to Edward James Olmos, Christine Devine, Edward Tessier, and Chris Loos. The ceremony will be hosted by Cecilia the Mamacita of 93.5 KDAY.
Latino Art Museum address: 281 S Thomas St-Ste 105, Pomona, California
