Throwback Thursday: Guns N’ Roses at Timbers Ballroom

Timbers Ballroom. Yet another venue I had no idea existed. Timbers ballroom was located on Foothill Blvd. in Glendora, and is now home to a shopping center that houses a large Goodwill Thrift Store.

Guns N’ Roses made their way to Glendora, CA in 1986 promoting the upcoming release and new recordings from the iconic album Appetite for Destruction. There are some places online where you can, um, “obtain” a copy of the live show’s recordings. Ahem. You may email me if you’re truly interested in that link!

The band line up consisted of: Axl Rose (vocals), Izzy Stradlin (rhythm guitarist), Slash (lead guitarist), Duff McKagan (bass) and Steven Adler (drums). This line up had shortly been formed after the band had been signed by Geffen in early 1986. During this time, Guns N’ Roses was dubbed “The most dangerous band in the world”. The most dangerous band in the world rocked Glendora with the following set:

1. Out Ta Get Me
2. Welcome To The Jungle
3. Think About You
4. Rocket Queen
5. Move To The City
6. Nightrain
7. My Michelle
8. Don’t Cry
9. You’re Crazy
10. Back Off Bitch
11. Anything Goes
12. Mama Kin
13. Paradise City
14. Nice Boys
15. Heartbreak Hotel
16. Shadow Of Your Love
17. Jumpin’ Jack Flash

According to the forum Appetite for Discussion, Axl showed up late to the show, and the band had to began the set without him. I guess when you have the reining title of “Most dangerous band in the world”, its unfashionable to show up to a gig on time…or wear a watch.

Unfortunately, I was unable to find a video of Guns N’ Roses at Timbers, but I did find this old gem of them performing Welcome to the Jungle live at Music Machine in Los Angeles. Those hair styles rule my life.

Happy Throwback Thursday.
