Throwback Thursday: Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Pomona Valley Auditorium

In my quest to find major acts that have come through our region, I kept stumbling upon an old venue named the “Pomona Valley Auditorium”. Pardon my ignorance (especially to my old school Pomona readers), but I had no idea this venue even existed. I have been to Downtown Pomona numerous times, and I have not seen a remnant of this old landmark anywhere. Alas, I found the missing link! The auditorium was a theatrical venue that also hosted musical performances many years ago (duh). Presently, the auditorium is occupied by a religious organization, but it has seen a tremendous amount of notable acts in its day. Among them, the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I did some more digging and found a [really] old flyer for a show dating back to 1985. It almost seems like a historic archive that should be preserved in a library somewhere! Well, I suppose it is a historic archive, considering it is nearly 30 years old! I also found another flyer in the archives. The Chili Peppers rocked Pomona more than once! Enjoy this Throwback to the 80’s, Chili Peppers style! Cheers!

Freaky Styley was released in 1985, and I imagine this is what their sets consisted of!

I have a vast amount of repscet for people that open their stores after lunch time (probably fans of sleeping), and actually stay open after most people have finished work.

The date was 8/13/83. OINGO BOINGO made their way to Pomona Valley Auditorium. I am trying to find an ad or concert poster for this show. Any idea on who I should talk to? Also what newspapers would have an ad to promote this concert? Thank you
